Starting October 26, 2026, the FAA’s Part 107 knowledge test (UAG) can show current sectional chart images on screen that are not in the printed testing supplement. Everything else about the test format stays the same.
What changed
- New on-screen chart images. Questions may display real, current sectional chart excerpts instead of only pointing you to a figure in the supplement.
- The testing supplement is still provided. The FAA-CT-8080-2H supplement remains at test centers, and the FAA has said it will give notice before it is removed.
- Same format. The test is still 60 questions in 2 hours, and you still need 70% to pass.
How to prepare
- Learn to read any sectional, not just the supplement figures. Focus on airspace boundaries and floors, airport data blocks, obstacles, and Military Training Routes.
- Know your airspace symbols cold. Solid magenta circles are Class C, dashed blue is Class D, and dashed magenta marks a Class E surface area.
- Practice with current charts. The FAA publishes current sectional charts for free online.
- Ask questions as you go. In Clear to Launch, Savvy can walk you through how to read any chart feature.
